As with all of our proprietary wines, each bottle has a deep and personal meaning for us. Mud's Kitchen is named after James' grandmother, Margaret 'Mud' Madu, and her farmhouse kitchen where he grew up learning about flavors and life's great lessons. We certainly think that's something to raise a glass to!
Sourced from Clone #7 Cabernet Sauvignon from our estate, the grapes also give us an intense soft lushness that we really desire in our wines. With Mud's Kitchen, we hoped to showcase this wonderful clone and the intense muscular core and long expressive finish it gives us.
Aromas of ripe raspberry, dark chocolate, earthy, perfumed and floral, orange rind/marmalade and cumin. Once the wine opens up the fruit takes on a much darker element with deeper blue and blackberry aromatics at its core. Dark, ripe fruit, milk chocolate mocha truffles, mint leaf, olive tapenade and sweet maraschino cherry dominate the flavors. The tannins are tightly woven at first, but the breadth and complexity are revealed as it continues to open, with a deep, lingering finish. The tannins are integrated and complete, with great layers that seem to build upon themselves.
